Picture Details

Stirling Castle was for centuries the favourite residence of many of Scotland's kings and queens.

The magnificent Great Hall that was once the location of the royal court of James IV was restored by Historic Scotland, and reopened in 1999.

This photo captures the front of Stirling Castle, with the entrance over to the right of the picture. You can also see the restored Great Hall building in the background - it's the one that is a beige/yellow colour. And contrasts with the older buildings in the foreground of the picture.

I have been assured that the colour of the Great Hall reflects the colour the whole of the castle would have been when it was first built. A truly impressive building - located high on its volcanic rock.
